Description: A golden palimino prances lightly, sporting blue flowers, ecru ruffles and pale peach ribbons. Flowered vines adorn the ornate lattice and scroll-work border. Background Information: I have always been captivated by carousel horses, especially those carved in the highly realistic manner known as the "Philadelphia" style. The challenge for me was to capture that "frozen" movement in a series of detailed carousel horses, each representing a season of the year. "Spring" is a type of carousel horse known as a "jumper"- an animal designed to have all four feet up off the carousel platform, which moves up and down as the carousel turns. It is interesting to note that after the advent of the electrical overhead drive, which made this movement possible, most carousel manufacturers opted to keep stationery animals on the outside rows, and placed "jumpers" on the inside rows.
Stitching Comments: This is a large design, with lots of quarter stitches and backstitching. The border adds a significant amount of work to the piece; it may be omitted if desired . Specialty Stitches: none Important Tips: Charting Technique, Large Designs, Miscellaneous Tips
