Description: An elegant gray mount with a white mane and tail is adorned with pink roses (the quintessential summer flower!), foliage, blue braided ribbon, cream ruffles and a fan. The border is trimmed with a profusion of roses, a large fan in each corner, and more blue ribbon.
Background Information: I have always been captivated by carousel horses, especially those carved in the highly realistic manner known as the "Philadelphia" style. The challenge for me was to capture that "frozen" movement in a series of detailed carousel horses, each representing a season of the year. "Summer" is a type of animal known as a "stander"- a stationary animal with at least three feet touching the carousel platform. The deeply arched neck and tucked head was a favorite stance, and typical, especially of the animals on the outside row of a carousel.
Stitching Comments: This is a large design, with lots of quarter stitches and backstitching. The border adds a significant amount of work to the piece; it may be omitted if desired.
Specialty Stitches: None
