Description:
A winged celestial being walks serenely through the evergreen forest,
accompanied by a deer, rabbits, doves, and spruce grouse: a few of the
creatures who don't hibernate through the frigid winter months. The angel
wears a cloak in rich shades of burgundy with sparkling accents of beads
and metallic thread, with a drape of winter's pale frosty blues... an
echo of colors of the snowy landscape. There is a space at the top of
the design for the name of the stocking's owner, which can be stitched
in the Celtic-style lettering included with the pattern.
Background Information:
I designed this piece in response to the many requests I've received over
the years for a stocking design. While it is "traditional" in
subject matter,
for me it still bears a "fantasy" feel. I purposely designed
an angel not obviously feminine or masculine, opting instead for a strong,
statuesque figure which is (hopefully) graceful as well.
Stitching Comments:
The design is full of blended colors, fractional stitches and lots of
backstitching. There is some over-one stitching: the face and the lettering.
(I've included a chart for an over-two face if preferred.) There are no
specialty stitches in this design, but there are several separate detail
charts, provided especially for the embellished areas of the design. There
is also a complete over-one alphabet included for personalization of the
stocking.
